June 10, 2013

Mom,
It is also getting hot here, but it just keeps raining! It makes for a nasty humid hot combo that it just terrible! The rain is what mostly slows down our work. People really don't like to be out and about in the rain, and I don't blame them!
I am trying to think of some really cool super spiritual experiences to tell you, but I just can't think of anything. One thing I have really realized out here on my mission, is that the Holy Ghost doesn't usually speak through power, and a voice coming from somewhere else to tell you what to say/do. But he speaks to us through that still small voice. Even the voice of the conscience! I have learned that through my thoughts, He speaks to me. I often hear myself say in my head, "Promise him this!" or "tell him if he does this he will be blessed" or when we have our own questions We need to trust our feelings! This was hard for me to recognize at first, but once you slow down and actually listen, it becomes a determining factor in everything we do! I believe it was Elder Holland that once said, "We must never throw our religion out the window!" Even when we are just playing games, or going about every day life. Our life should be centered around becoming like Christ!
I don't have to many experiences this week to share, but I do know that This church is the true Church of Jesus Christ. I know that it was restored through Joseph Smith, and that if we live by all the principles and ordinances of it, We can obtain Exaltation in the Celestial kingdom!
I love you mom and thanks for all your support! :D

Mom,

This week was good. We have been struggling to find new people to teach and at the moment we only actually have one progressing investigator. The only problem is he has a broken leg and can't even come to church or to anything. We have to go to his place and talk with him while he lies in his bed, or sometimes he sits up. It has been raining almost every day, which also doesn't help much with finding new people to teach. I don't think i've prayed for more help ever before. We are just trying not to get discouraged and to move forward. God has a plan for everyone and we just need to follow the spirit down the path!
That's great to hear that grandpa is okay. I also know that priesthood blessings work! I have had a couple opportunities to give blessing to sick/hurt people. As long as we are worthy there are no worries! Doubt not, only believe!
We are mostly working with members right now, which is rewarding and difficult. There are a lot of new members, that still don't have the principles down exactly right. We just go over the missionary lessons with them and answer questions they might have. It is very interesting work.
I don't know what you want me to tell you about Bulgaria. I have been here for soo long that it all just seems normal to me now! I am in Pleven, and it is a city with a lot of tress and hills. I haven't been able to get up ontop of a hill to take a good picture of the city or the landscape yet, but when I do I will send a picture for sure. It is definitely a beautiful place, but I will always love Burgas the most!
Probably the most exciting thing that happened to us was we met a man. My companion and the district leader had a lesson with him on splits. The next day he called and asked if we could meet up again, and I asked him for what. He told me that he wanted to do some various sins with us. I told him that he needed to repent for these kinds of things, and he just kept insisting to do them. I commanded him to repent and hung up the phone. He hasn't called us since then.
Also yesterday was a national holiday and we were standing at a bus stop and some teenagers started asking us some questions (wearing hoods and masks and stuff) and right before we jumped on the bus they pushed my comapnion then ran away. It's a good thing the bus came because I don't know what else they were thinking of doing.
Well I'm out of the things to say for this week! Love you Mom!

Mom,

You want to hear all about Bulgaria... Well it's the same that it has been for the past... what... 12 months?  we go out everyday and look for people to teach. Sometimes we have lessons and that is great. recently we have been teaching a lot of lessons to recent converts and less active members. Sometimes I feel like we are teaching to investigators though, because they don't seen to know even the most basic things, but patience is a virtue of God for a reason! I am so happy to be able to help all of these people! My joy for the work has only increased as I have come to Pleven. We started out with absolutely no investigators and nothing to go off of. We had to start from scratch. It looks like we will be having at least 1 baptism next month, and hopefully 3! That is from our companionship anyway! It looks like we may have one every Saturday and on some Saturdays doubles! The lord has truly blessed the work here as we are being obedient and working diligently!
On other news, it hasn't been so hot! it has rained almost every day though. that keeps it nice and cool however it makes it a little bit harder to walk the streets and talk to people. but I am grateful that the heat hasn't just been killing us like last summer! The hottest it has been so far this summer is 38 degrees. last summer I remember 45!
This week proves to be exciting because we will be giving out 3 permission slips for peope that are not yet 18. If they come back signed then we can teach these young adults that have been coming to church and learning everything for like... 2 years or something. That would be really nice if it worked out!
Thanks for all your support mom! I couldn't do it without the support of my Family and the prayers of everyone! Keep praying for the missionaries! I love you and let everyone else know it for me!

Hey Mom,
How was mothers day? I hope it was super great even though we had little probems with the skyping thing! It sounds like the wedding was good. I am happy to hear that. When are they going to Disney Land? How was the band banquet? Anything exciting happen?
This week was good here. We had a zone training meeting on Tuesday and I was sick with the flu on Wednesday so we didn't get to start getting anything done until Thursday. We met a lady while we were giving out candy last week, and we had a lesson with her just at a little cafe on the corner. She didn't want to give us her number, so we just had to hope she would call us. On Wednesday when I was sick she gave me a call and I had to tell her I was sick and that we couldn't see each other yet. I thought I might not ever get a hold of her again, but I called her the next day to set up an appointment and she answered! We met her on Friday with a member and the lesson was the most successful I have ever had. The member said that it was the best lesson he had ever been a part of as well, and he was a missionary in London! He asked her in the lesson what it meant for her that Jesus Christ had died for her sins, and the spirit was so strong that she started crying before she could answer. It was so good! On Sunday we got to see her again, but it wasn't as good of a lesson, but still good. she is very promising!
About Pleven: We are near the mountains I think. There are so many trees that I can never really tell. The weather just keeps getting hotter and hotter every day! This last week we had a crazy flash flood rainstorm! We came out of the church and the sky was green and there was a lot of lightning and it was really cool! We started walking home and it started to rain lightly, but soon it was coming down like I have never seen before! We began to run home, but we soon gave up because we were so wet that there was no point in running.By the time we got home the streets had become rivers and we had to dump water out of our shoes. It was a lot of fun.
Well thats all I have for this week! I hope everything is going to go well for you at home with all your activities! Don't forget about all the missionaries around the world!

Elder Petersen
